Team Overview

The Commercial, Technology & Data team is recognised for advising both UK and international clients on complex commercial arrangements, strategic projects, and technology-driven initiatives. The team works across a broad range of sectors including technology, life sciences, financial services, consumer products, hospitality, infrastructure, and emerging industries.

Lawyers within the team advise on a diverse portfolio of commercial agreements and projects, often involving multi-jurisdictional considerations and business-critical operations. The practice is particularly noted for providing practical, commercially driven advice that aligns legal solutions with clients' wider business objectives.

The team offers a highly supportive environment with direct partner access, early responsibility, and exposure to sophisticated matters for major corporate clients.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will work closely with partners and senior lawyers on a broad range of commercial and technology matters. The role offers exposure to complex contractual arrangements, strategic technology projects, regulatory considerations, and cross-border transactions.

The position provides an excellent opportunity to develop sector expertise while advising clients on day-to-day commercial matters and long-term strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts, including supply, services, distribution, agency, manufacturing, licensing and collaboration agreements.
  • Advise clients on technology-related arrangements, including software licensing, digital transformation projects, outsourcing transactions, and technology procurement matters.
  • Support corporate and private capital transactions through due diligence exercises and the preparation of ancillary commercial agreements.
  • Provide pragmatic advice on contractual risk allocation, regulatory compliance, operational issues, and commercial strategy.
  • Conduct legal research and remain informed on developments across commercial, technology, data, and emerging regulatory frameworks.
  • Assist with multi-jurisdictional projects involving colleagues across different practice areas and international offices.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering commercially focused legal solutions.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, client events, thought leadership projects, and marketing activities.
  • Support the continued growth of the practice through market engagement and relationship building.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified solicitor with experience advising on a broad range of commercial contractual matters.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills with the ability to manage matters effectively.
  • Experience handling commercial agreements such as services, supply, distribution, licensing, outsourcing, manufacturing, or collaboration arrangements.
  • Exposure to technology, data, digital transformation, or software-related projects would be advantageous.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to deliver practical and business-focused advice.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and capable of building effective working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and a solutions-focused approach.
  • Interested in business development and contributing to the growth of a successful commercial practice.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team on complex and high-profile matters.
