Employment Associate - International Law Firm

The Opportunity

The Employment team is seeking an Employment Associate to join its London practice and work across a broad range of sophisticated employment matters, including workplace disputes, business-critical change projects, executive exits and major corporate transactions.

The Role

The successful candidate will advise senior decision-makers on sensitive and commercially significant employment matters, working closely with experienced colleagues and clients.

The role will provide exposure to complex Employment Tribunal claims, workplace investigations, executive matters, corporate transactions and workforce issues involving multiple jurisdictions.

The Employment Associate will have meaningful responsibility from the outset, with the opportunity to take ownership of significant matters, develop strong client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the wider Employment practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing Employment Tribunal matters from strategy through to resolution, including opportunities to undertake advocacy at preliminary hearings where appropriate.
• Advising HR Directors, General Counsel, Managing Directors and senior business leaders on complex employee relations issues, workplace risk and business-critical people decisions.
• Supporting negotiations involving senior executive appointments, departures, restrictive covenants, team moves and business protection matters.
• Advising on the employment aspects of domestic and cross-border corporate transactions.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues across international offices to deliver coordinated employment advice on multi-jurisdictional matters.
• Developing strong client relationships and gaining a detailed understanding of clients' businesses and commercial objectives.
• Contributing to the continued development and growth of the Employment practice.

Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

• Strong employment law experience gained within a recognised law firm.
• Experience handling contentious employment matters, including Employment Tribunal claims.
• A strong technical understanding of employment law combined with sound commercial judgement.
• The ability to manage complex matters and take ownership of client relationships.
• Excellent communication and client-handling skills.
• Confidence working in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
• A practical, solutions-focused and commercially minded approach.
• An entrepreneurial mindset, with an interest in developing client relationships and contributing to business development.
