Job Description

A unique opportunity for a Media Law Solicitor to join a specialist media and litigation law firm in London.

The Firm

Listed in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners directories as a leading firm in defamation, privacy, harassment law, white-collar crime and regulatory/disciplinary work, our client is a specialist media and litigation law firm based in the City of London.

The Team

The media law department is an exciting environment for those with a passion for this unique area of law. Unlike many other firms that practice media law, the firm’s media lawyers work exclusively in this field. Their practice is not supplemented by commercial litigation or non-contentious work. This is a conscious decision that helps their lawyers maximise their expertise.

The Role

The successful applicant will undertake defamation, privacy and harassment work. This will include claims arising from publications/broadcasts online and in the mainstream media, as well as privacy and data breaches. Whilst the department undertakes some defendant work, it predominantly acts for claimants.

On a typical case, an assistant solicitor has day-to-day conduct of a file and reports to one of the department's two partners for strategic input. The majority of their clients are individual professionals, businesspeople, and HNWIs.  However, they also act for SMEs, charities, and local government.

The Candidate

The successful candidate must have media law experience. They will also have extensive experience of civil litigation (relative to their PQE) and an excellent knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules. Applicants should feel comfortable taking instructions from clients alone, running their own caseload and progressing matters with minimal supervision. They should be natural communicators and comfortable with advising people from a wide range of professional backgrounds, as well as corporates. They should be commercially minded, and adept at working under pressure and as part of a team.

The role is ideally suitable for solicitors of between 3-6 years' PQE, but the firm will consider applications from exceptional candidates from NQ upwards.
